My firewall is no longer stopping the annoying blue/gray
Messgenger messages. It is still set to do so, but I have
recently started getting them again. Any thoughts? Is
there an easy way to see if my firewall is working
properly?

Thanks!

Open the Services program: Start, All Programs, then...is
it Accessories or the next tab down? I'm not on an XP PC
at the moment and I don't recall. But one or the other
will lead you to Services. Scroll down to Messenger and
*disable* it.

My HEN HOUSE has a fence around it yet this one RED FOX still gets in.
Rick says, "Shoot the FOX."

Patient: "It hurts when I RAISE my arm."
Dr. Rick: "Why not just NOT RAISE your arm?"

Messenger: "I regret to inform you of some BAD news."
Rick's response: Kill the messenger. No more BAD news. Problem solved.
At least THAT messenger won't give me anymore BAD news.

Rick, you and all the others out there who propose this *solution* catchin'
my drift?
Here is a classic example of a wrong solution to a problem.
The original poster even says "MY FIREWALL IS NO LONGER EFFECTIVE"
and you say "Disable Windows Messenger".

Disabling Windows Messenger WILL NOT cure security breaches ---
PERIOD!!!!!
Respond to the PROBLEM-- Fix the FIREWALL.

Don't mean to pick on just you, Rick. This just happened to be the right set
up to blast an endemic bit of misinformation in this forum.

ok, all xp users!!!!here is what you need to do, i am assuming yo
havent got this fixed yet? go to c:windows/messenger now what you wan
to do is right click the file named messenger and type kill in front o
it, example killmessenger, ok now,

go to start, settings, control panel, adminstrative tools, clic
services, in the box on the right find messenger, right click it, al
tasks, then you want to stop it, then right click , go to properties,
in the drop down box make sure it says disable, also make sure it
unchecked in your start up, (msconfig), this will disable thos
annoying messages that your getting, if it dont work, post here again
