When I try to enable the XP firewall:

"Error while internet connection sharing was being established. Dependency
group or service failed to start."

The thing is, I have been sharing a connection for months. I have, however,
for no apparent reason, been shut out of some sites consistently when I use
a web browser. (Macromedia, K-swiss, for example) It doesn't matter which
browser, and it still happens if I remover the computer from the internet.

I wonder if the problems are related; if I could fix the firewall problem
that I might be able to get full internet access.

Thanks.

Look in the event log(s) - (start, run, compmgmt.msc, event viewer) .
..the system log should show you an 'error' event from service control
manager telling you which service that firewall/ICS depends on it was
that failed to start.

Stuart:

Verify that Application Gateway Layer Service is started
Use CPanel: Admin Tools: Services

Both ICF and ICS use it.
