Hi Guys
Remember when we had to configure windows messenger to send and recieve
files by opening up 14 ports. With the firewall enabled.
I have xp pro sp2. Messenger 5.0 Do i still need to do that. Create
the 14 msn connection ports?
Or can i send and recieve files and photos just the way it is?
Thanks.

Greetings Carl,

No, you don't need to set this up manually anymore under Windows XP SP2. All you have to do
is make sure that Windows Messenger is on the exceptions list. To check for this, click
Start, then All Programs, Accessories, Communications, and then Network Connections. In the
left-hand pane of the Network Connections, click the "Change Windows Firewall settings" under
Network Tasks. Click the Exceptions tab, and look for a "Windows Messenger", if it's there
but unchecked, check it. If there's no option for Messenger, click Add Program, then the
Browse button, find the \Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe file and click OK.

After this, file transfer should work just fine within Windows Messenger.
