I thought it be of interest to people to see the user agents for my
website for the last month. It's interesting because Mozilla/5 has
steadily been gaining in popularity and is only a whisker behind MSIE 6.
It's not all good news, though, because there are other versions of IE
in use. For some reason Yahoo Slurp, and internet crawler, hasn't half
been crawling my site.

1 8872 (32.54%) MSIE 6
2 8263 (30.30%) Mozilla/5
3 3204 (11.75%) Yahoo! Slurp
4 1423 (5.22%) MSIE 5
5 788 (2.89%) Googlebot/2
6 706 (2.59%) msnbot/1.0 (+http://search.msn.com/msnbot.htm)
7 284 (1.04%) MSIE 7
8 259 (0.95%) Konqueror/3
9 151 (0.55%) UbiCrawler/v0.5beta (http://law.dsi.unimi.it/)
10 147 (0.54%) heritrix/1
11 144 (0.53%) msnbot/0.9 (+http://search.msn.com/msnbot.htm)
12 143 (0.52%) Opera/9
13 138 (0.51%) ConveraCrawler/0.9d
(+http://www.authoritativeweb.com/crawl)
14 135 (0.50%) Ask Jeeves/Teoma
15 115 (0.42%) shybunnie-engine\"

the stats are basically
~ 65-70% IE
~ 25-30% firefox - mozilla
~ 5% everything else

Mark.... and how meaningful are these stats when you consider that most
browsers have a setting to 'identify as:"?

Mozilla/5 can refer to Firefox, Mozilla Suite (a.k.a. SeaMonkey) and
Netscape versions 7.0 and higher. For proper results, you'd have to
filter:

- If the user agent contain "Firefox" then it is Firefox
- If the user agent contain "Netscape" then it is Netscape
- If the user agent contain "SeaMonkey" or don't contain "Firefox" or
"Netscape" it is Mozilla Suite

And I think that you can configure Opera to hide itself behind a Mozilla
user agent.

true, because there are some browsers that use the IE rendering engine
so they'll come up as IE when they really aren't (but are, depends on
what you consider IE)

My web site stats show roughly the same: MSIE is the most at 40%, but
