I have win95 (96mb RAM), and now need Word (version 7.0) for it. Where can I find this program, plus all the updates needed to make it compatible with current versions?

You may find a copy on eBay. It is not possible to update it to make it
compatible with the latest version. There is however a converter that you
can get from
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,4197,00.asp that
will allow you to convert a Word97 (and maybe later version) file into a
format that can be opened with Word 7.

Hope this helps

Are you looking for Word 7.0 because you think a later version won't run
on Windows 95, or because your computer's processor isn't fast enough?
If so, I can tell you that I had no problems running Word 97 on a
computer with an Intel Pentium MMX 133MHz processor, 128MB of ram, and
Windows 95 Second Edition (Pentium MMX came out after the original
Pentium processor, but before the Pentium II processor). Word 97 is
compatible with current versions for the most part. HTH.

Thanks to "Doug" and "Garfield-n-Odie" for your help. It seems I'm bound to ebay for the Word 7.0. I don't think my ram & processor (not Pentium, 125 mhz) will handle anything more recent. Hopefully, with the converter that Doug recommended, I can get files to the Word 97 state, then proceed from there
