Finding stuff in the Start Menu

Hmm;

Something I'll just have to get used too i guess; but, is anyone else having
irritations at the design of the start menu, having it all in a small little
area?

Personally I like the windows classic style of popping up the window. I'm a
system admin; with a lot of tools and utilities to sort through in a start
menu, this new system just doesnt seem to be efficent for sorting through a
lot of entries at one time.

Anyone else vote that Microsoft adds a WinXP style to their start menu, that
way it still has the nice UI look, whilst retaining the large (non scrolling)
list of items?

I MUCH prefer this design, to having my entire screen turn into a menu! Just
personal preference, I suppose...

However, with the new design, if you start typing in the search box, it will
narrow the list down to any start menu item containing what is in the search
box, as you type ...

It also doubles as a RUN box and will search recent e-mails ...

This by far is worth any inconvienence the new system has lol

The classic fly-out design never contemplated the sheer size of present day
storage and the number of entries that can be common today with the
incredible variety and number of programs available. I concur with Jimmy.
Neither the fly-out or scroll solutions cut it any more. You are going to
find the same thing in Office 2007. Some of this is helped by the new
virtual folders. I am getting to like them and Recently Used folders too.
It is a matter of personal taste, but for my part I got very tired of three
and four step fly-outs and having to start all over if my mouse slipped a
little.

I like it overall, but I do wish when you go to all programs that the start
menu's size would increase so it wouldn't be in a such a little area and
therefore require less scrolling. I think it's a very good idea overall
though because I got tired of using the 'scroll programs' feature in XP
where I had to put my cursor at the bottom of the menu and wait and wait for
it to scroll through the list to get to the program I was looking for. I
hated the non-scrolling method even worse on XP (and Windows ME) because the
programs menu just looked terrible that way and unorganized. I also wish
when you go into the start menu in Vista that when you hit the start button
that you could still use the keyboard to select something in the start menu,
but when you press the keyboard now, it types what you type in the search
box instead. I could hit the tab key, but even then I don't think there's a
letter I can press on my keyboard to bring my computer to standby. (Sleep)
I was used to in XP pressing the Windows key, pressing 'u' to turn off the
computer, and pressing 's' for standby. Can't seem to do that now.
