findfast.exe and osa. exe application failed to initialize

I've been setting up some new XP Pro SP2
computers on our network. After I've joined them to the SBS 20034 domain, I
install Office 97- all the installations are done using Administrator
permissions. Then on some of them, when I try to logon as the user, they get
the error message for findfast.exe and osa.exe saying the applications failed
to initialize. I've found those files and give the users full permissions,
but that doesn't help. The computers also have Outlook 2003 installed as a
part of the SBS 2003 client computer set up. Does anyone have an idea of
something else I can try.

the only thing I can remember about findfast is that I have a note on
my install cd for office 97 that reminds me not to install it.
There was some issue with it.

I know it slows stuff down, but if I run as administrator, I don't get the
error messages. If I run as the user, I do.

Dump both of them.

They do nothing but cause unnecessary disk activity.

You'll find them in the Start>>All Programs>>Startup folder.

Just delete the shortcuts from that folder.

That's good news. You dont want findfast running.

I think I've fixed it. I got rid of findfast.exe and osa.exe and when I tried
to open an Access db, I got an error about a different dll. I did a complete
uninstall of Office 97 and Outlook 2003, use ork tools to clean up, then
reinstalled Office 97 into a directory other than the default. It seems to be
OK now.
