Find and Replace is useless

When using Access 2000, searching is extremely unreliable.
Sometimes you can search for data that you know is in the
database and is in fact on the very screen you are using
and Find and Replace is unable to find it.
The help files waffle on about setting the maximum record
limit, but there is no such button on the table datasheet
view. We do not use Forms so any of the help files
regarding setting it on a form is of very little help. Is
it possible to correct this, or do we just have to suffer?

Please feel free to E-mail me directly as I may not get a
chance to see the replies.

data entry in tables is unreliable and bad practice.

Find and replace works just fine on forms, which is the proper way to edit
your data.

Querying also works extremely well.

Sounds like you are commiting spreadsheet upon your database.

I suspect you are searching fields with the lookup field set and the
Search Fields as Formatted off. Or have you set the Match to Any Part
of Field?

Thanks for your reply, Tony.

I have set look in to "table". I have also set match
to "any part of field". I am not quite sure what you are
refering to as formatted off, though the More>> option
shows "search fields as formatted" as a greyed out box,
which is unselectable. Search is also set to all
and "match case" is unchecked.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Kevin, I take your point. It is being used as a
glorified spreadsheet, i guess, though we use queries on
the data in the database and the input mask options and
validation rules are extremely useful. It is true that
when I run queries, the data is found everytime, but not
everyone here is comfortable with the use of queries.

Many Thanks,
Jesse

No. It would appear you don't have any fields with the lookup wizard
enabled if the search fields as formatted is grayed out.
