FILTER KEYS

What on earth? as a garbled post elsewhere in this ng probably shows _
(that@s ahyph) oh for goodness sake!

i was typing a reply and was holding down the right shift key while i was
thinking> (that~s a period)>

A pop_up displayed explaining to me that as i had held the shift key down
for * (CAN@T GET the eight key to work) _ for eight seconds< comma!< filter
keys had been activated> i read the pop up and decided i didn@t want filter
keys _ so as prompted i clicked on cancel

now things are a complete dog@s breakfast caps lock is lit when no caps work
i cant get most of the keys or shifted characters and the mouse click seems
to have changed to select_all> what a mess>

ive just reproduced it to make sure id read the pop up properly and i
definitely selected cancel> the only way to get out of the mess seems to be
to reboot>

so what are the point of filter keys? and why does it mess up my system?

It's f***ing PITA ian't it? It's not just you, I found that clicking
Cancel left them enabled (same goes for Sticky Keys - tap SHIFT 5 times).

Here's how to turn it all off permanently.

Control Panel->Accessibility Options

On the Keyboard tab UNcheck all the options.
Click each of the Settings buttons and UNcheck "Use shortcut" on each of
the dialogues that appears.

Ain't that the truth.
It's not just you, I found that clicking

It's always nice to know I'm not alone.
Here's how to turn it all off permanently.
