I am trying to filter my contact list by catagory but don't see an option
nor could I find out how using the help feature. I see how to display
grouped by catagories but not how to show only catagory X (or Y, Z, etc.)
How do I do this?

Bob

that's a view setting. you can either click on the row of field names and
choose custom... or find Define views and edit the global view. see
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/custom_views.htm for help with define
views.

When in the "normal" card view there isn't just a simple "view by" command
or something like that?

if you display the advanced toolbar, you can select views from the view by
dropdown.
