OK - So I have text in A1
Then column A is blank down to A(x) (x being and possible number.
Then I have different text in the next row in A. A(x+1).
This happens repeatedly through out about 50,000 records (that rules out
using the auto fill)
How can I populate ALL the blank rows in column A with the text that is
above it?
I know it is doable - but I just can't remember the procedure.
Any help here will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Are you available to answer a worksheet consolidation question no one else
will answer?

Here is my question:

I'm consolidating 3 worksheets into one by using Excel 2007 data
consolidation. The worksheets have product numbers in column A and sales
figures in columns B, C & D for Jan, Feb and Mar which are column labels.
The worksheets are in
product number sequence. Not all product numbers appear on each sheet, so I
consolidate by category using "labels in left column", "labels in top row"
and "create links to source data" to create a consolidation sheet in outline
form. The problem is the consolidated worksheet is not in product number
sequence as I need it to be. When I consolidate to a regular (non outline)
sheet, the consolidated sheet is out of sequence too.

I have books on Excel 2007 and Excel 2003 and their consolidated worksheet
examples are not in sequence either although their input sheets
are.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

After you consolidate the data, you should be able to sort the labels.
They'll appear out of order if you update, so repeat the sort to put
them back in order.

I cannot sort the labels (product numbers) in a consolidated worksheet in
outline form. The product numbers are in column A and the supporting detail
items do not have part numbers in column A. They have blanks. They have the
sheet name in column B. The fact that the sheets are out of sequence
defeats the whole purpose of consolidation. Microsoft must know this.

A useful feature of the Consolidate command is that if you select a range
instead of a single cell before choosing Data > Consolidate, any existing Row
or Column headings in that range will be used. So maybe if you do not already
have a list of product numbers try doing this in two steps:

1. Select a cell then Data > Consolidate without creating links to get a
list of product numbers
2. Sort by first column, and with the whole range selected choose Data >
Consolidate again with the Create Links option checked

Use "Count" as the summary function to include text values in the output.

I selected row and column headings. They are there in the output sheet. But
the output sheet is out of sequence by product number. The input sheets are
in sequence by product number..
