Hi, When i run a chkdsk i get this at the end...

Correcting errors in the master file table's (MFT) DATA
attribute.
CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the
master file table (MFT) bitmap.
CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the
volume bitmap.
Windows found problems with the file system.
Run CHKDSK with the /F (fix) option to correct these.

so i then run a chkdsk /f and it tells me that it cant to
it in read only mode - do you want to schedule it for the
next restart, so i said yes and it goes through a chkdsk
on restart and then you get back in to windows, run a
chkdsk again in cmd and i get the same error as before -
meaning that nothing has been fixed. When i tried to
defrag my system i also have a big block of free space in
the middle of the drive with some unmoveable data either
side of it, dont know if that has anything to do with it.

Ive also tried low level formatting my hard drive using
the seagate tools and starting again but im still getting
the same problem.

My system is:
Windows xp sp2 rc2
amd athlon xp 2000+
1gb of ddr
40gb seagate barracuda

anyone have any ideas what is up? or is it a known
problem with xp sp2?

thanks

REPLACE THE IDE/ATA CABLES. If they're bad they could be the problem and
they cost $3-4 each. (Make sure you get Ultra ATA cables). Then try again.
