You will lose a bit of functionality should you find out how to eliminate
them permanently. They are an inherent part of the operating system.

They appear if you have Thumbnail View selected. They're the database files
for the thumbnails of whichever folder they're in. Select a different view,
delete thumbs.db and it shouldn't come back.

There is also a setting - poss. in TweakUI - to not cache thumbnails. I
imagine (having never used it) that that would stop thumbs.db reappearing
even with Thumbnail View selected.

Hi,

They hold viewing information about the folder in which they reside, just
leave them alone.

That's a cache file created when in folders for images when you set the
view to thumbnail. It holds a cache of the of each image thumbnail.

It's there for a reason, it's necessary to support viewing folders with
photographs in it as "thumbnails" (so that you actually see the
photographs). Open up a folder with photographs (My Pictures) and
select View / As Thumbnails.

Don't worry about them, they are not a problem. If you delete them,
they will be recreated, in most cases.
