I run a 3 machine network all wireless. My main pc(1) is
connected to broadband via on board lan. i have another
upstairs(2) with a wireless USB adapter, and my laptop(3)
in built wlan.
All machines run XP home ed, and all WERE working. My ICS
is fine as all machines can access the net. pc's 2+3 can
share files fine but do not recognize pc 1 in their
workgroup. vica versa for pc 1. All 3 pc's can PING each
other with no prob. Cannot NET VIEW TO pc 1, or from pc 1.
All ip addresses are manually set to 192.168.0.1/2/3
accordingly.I have completely dropped firewall on pc 1
(only one with it) but no change. I have run network
wizard but no change.
Please help
Thanks

Enable XP's firewall on pc 1's shared Internet connection to protect
your computers from Internet hackers. Disable the firewall on pc 1's
local area network connection.

These tips should help you get everything working:

1. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/network_protocols.htm

2. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.
Details here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/troubleshoot/netbt.htm

3. Run "ipconfig /all" on all computers and look at the "Node Type" at
the beginning of the output. If it says "Peer-to-Peer" (which should
actually be "Point-to-Point") that's the problem. It means that the
computer only uses a WINS server, which isn't available on a
peer-to-peer network for NetBIOS name resolution.

If that's the case, run the registry editor, open this key:

HLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netbt\Parameters

and delete these values if they're present:

NodeType
DhcpNodeType

Reboot, then try network access again.

If that doesn't fix it, open that registry key again, create a DWORD
value called "NodeType", and set it to 1 for "Broadcast" or 4 for
"Mixed".
