I have 3-4 files on my computer that are not being used by
any program and that have EXTREMELY long names that cannot
be deleted in Windows XP Professional. The files are in a
temporary internet folder. Anybody know how to get rid of
these files? I only ask because I cannot run the patch
for the welchia or sobig worms because of these files.

The names are huge and they're all three different.
They're like 08246832@explorer1explorer2expl... etc.

Are they under a folder path similar to \Documents and Settings\fred\Local
Settings\Temporary Internet Files?
With an @ sign in the name they sound a bit like cookies.
What happens when you try to delete them ?
Do you get access denied or something else?
Do you know what their current permissions are set to?

They are in the internet temp folder. When I right-click
on the file, there is no option to delete. When I hit
delete, it give me an access denied, although I am in the
administrator mode. I cannot look at the file's
permissions.

What is the full path name to this "internet temp folder" ?
Why cant you look at the file permissions, are you using a FAT or NTFS file
system
You say you using windows xp profressional, so if it is ntfs, go into
My Computer/Tools/Folder Options/View
and turn off simple file sharing which should be the very last option
Now when you view the file by right click and properties, you should get a
security tab which will show the current permissions.
Just because your administrator, doesn't mean you have access to a file,
administrator in windows xp isn't some kind or superuser which overides ACLs
(permissions), however what it can do, is take ownership of the file or
transfer ownership to another user or group. If it is a permissions issue,
this is how you get around it.
