Hi, about twice a week, I receive an error message that advises me ""Files
that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by
unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore
the original version of these files. Insert your CD-ROM now. Reenter / More
Information / Cancel". The message goes away when I place the WindowsXp CD in
the CD Drive and a Windows install screen pops-up.
Further, I probably have complicated matters because the original WindowsXp
CD is SP1 and I downloaded and installed SP2 on my system.
I am not sure what I need to do to proceed and would appreciate help to
reinstall the WindowsXp Professional files that apparently have been
corrupted.
Thanks,
Bob

Hi

You will to create an SP2 slipstreamed CD and then use that to run the
following from Start>Run

sfc /scannow

To create an SP2 CD:

You can download the SP2 file (266 MBs) from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en -
or if you have a copy of the SP2 CD, you can copy the xpsp2.exe file from
that CD onto your hard disk/partition and use that:

then follow the directions in the following article to create a slipstreamed
XP CD:

http://www.msfn.org/articles.php?action=show&showarticle=49

He can try and run sfc /scannow with his present CD. Might be an original
file that is needed

Hi

If SP2 is installed, then an SP1 file replacement may cause problems - and
the same message will still appear.

Thanks for your help guys, what do I do after I "follow the directions in
the following article to create a slipstreamed XP CD" to replace / repair the
WindowsXp files? Do I place the (newly created) SlipStreamed XP CD in the
CD-ROM instead of my orginal WindowsXp install CD and if so, what option do I
selected to replace / repair the corrupted files? Thank you again for your
help, Bob

Thanks Kelley, I POSTED my initial question , reply and follow-up on the
MSNew Public Windows board, hopefully I someone will reply and I will be able
to access the note. Thanks for your help. Bob

Ummmm, I created NewsGroup folder and posted a continuation of this tread
earlier this morning and have not received / seen a reply.
