I have a user who is trying to insert an excel file as an attachment in
Outlook 2003 and when she drops down the Files of Type list to filter the
list of files, Excel is not listed as an available file type. Now I know
that there is a dozen ways to attach a file as an attachment in Outlook but
this user is ignorant and the most senior woman in the company. She is very
picky and wants things her way regardless of how stupid it might be.

How do I add a File of Type to this list? Excel is installed on the machine.
I searched the registry but came up blank for Files of Type.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

John

Choose "All File Types (*.*)"

That is exactly what I told her but she WANTS *.xls to show up in the drop
down list.

Certainly "All files" is a choice. Use that one and choose the Excel file.
Alternatively, compose the message then just drag the Excel file to it.

Tried that answer too - she WANTS to see Excel Files as a choice in the drop
filter. Period. End of discussion.

Anyone know what I need to rpogram or hack?

Brilliant! You are exactly right!

Thank you so much!

Hi John,

In her Tools...options menu, disable using Word as the email editor, make
sure she's creating new mail as Rich text. The *.xls extension won't appear
if Word is selected as her email editor.

It depends on whether you are using Word or Outlook as the editor. You can
also type *.xls in the filename box and hit ENTER to filter.
