files missing

I have two hardrives a western digatl 7200 rpm 80 gb and a ibm 200 7200 rpm gb I use the smaller hardrive as my system drive so I need to reinstaill windows xp professional so I used windows setup to reformat my smaller drive and then reinstall got all the service packs and updates

then I noticed that not all of my files were on my larger hardrive which I was using for backup but when I ran norton disk docter I was able to see all my files so I'm not sure how to get windows to recongise my files

Brian, could you possibly clarify which files you can not see on your fresh
windows installation? Give an example (provide a file name if you can)
