Can someone tell me if there is a limit on the amount of files I can
store in a folder with window xp (numeber of files or capacity in bytes
or gig) It seem that after a certain amount I cannot add anything else
to a folder (around 10,000 files)(mp3+g with their cdg files)
Paul,
We have tested folders with up to 20 Million files in a single folder.
Thisi is on NTFS formated volumes.
Anyone who does use large numbers of files in a directory (certainly
300,000) should disable short name generation especially if the long file
names have similar first 5 characters.
We haven't seen a case of the filesystem itself crashing because the
underlying structure was large.
Note however, that Explorer though has an issue displaying its gui on such
volumes. The hourglass or flashlight just keeps going for eternity.. Other
similar gui apps could have problems..
