I have discovered 'CD-Recorder Update.reg' in one of my work folders. I don't
know how it got there. Can I delete it? if not, where should it go, and how
do I get it there?

Thanks, in anticipation.

Thanks for the response. I believe it is connected with Pinnacle Instant
CD&DVD. If I need to keep he file. how can I restore it to its right
location? Or can I delete it and download another updtae assuming it will
find the right [place to go?

If it's not causing any problems, just leave it there.

CD-Recorder Update.reg is not a driver, but will simply add the new
recorders to the Windows (Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP) registry.

After you have Merged CD-Recorder Update.reg into your registry, you can
delete the file.

It probably belongs to one of your programs.

Actually, it could do anything to the registry. The only part of the
name you can (half-)trust is the .REG, which tells you it will splat
material straight into the registry when "opened'.

That makes it a very dangerous type of file to leave lying around, or
to find in unexpected places. Why would an optical drive's software
drop a .REG file into the data set?
After you have Merged CD-Recorder Update.reg into your registry, you can
delete the file.

Er... this file turns up unexpectedly in the data set (to which all
processes have write access, no matter how "limited" the user account)
and you trust it to be what the name says it might be?

Ah; wait a moment... is this a paste of the contents?

Ahhh... that's IE using your "data" set as a generic dumping ground
for arbitrary downloads, and thus significantly increasing the risk of
having malware backed up with your "data".

I keep forgetting ppl leave these sort of duhfaults in place, as well
as how clueless on Safe Hex so many MS duhfaults still are.
