My question is: "After you have done a file/folder
search on your C drive, how do you eliminate that same
search from popping up again? For instance, if I did a
file/folders search for the word "football", each
successive time I do a file/folder search and type the
letter 'f', the word 'football' pops up automatically
because it remembers that I had done it in the past. How
do I set things up so that 'football' will not pop up
anymore?"

It takes a long time to find all the ways to turn off such useless stuff as the URL history, search history, run history, pop-up balloons, banners and so on but it's worth it in the long run. I have done all of this and more in an effort to "clean up" windows. I've even removed the stupid "click here to begin" that pops-up when you hover your cursor over the start button. For the search history you will need to go into the registry. go>start\run and type in regedit and hit ok. Now follow this route by clicking the + symbol beside each entry in this order. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\SearchAssistant\ACMru now right click on ADMru and then click permissions and in every instance set it to deny. Be sure you write this down so that if you decide you want the feature turned back on you can undo this. Once permissions have been set to deny in all instances simply close out and there you have it. If you want more of these sorts of fixes for XP e:mail me with the ones you want and I'll give you the registry route or method to use. Good luck.

In IE, Tools> Internet Options> Content > click the Auto Complete
button and uncheck the boxes.
