(XP SP2 Machine) I'm trying to open a .pdf document from a website but when I
click to open it I get a window and see the file downloading in the bottom
left hand corner but the document appears quickly and then disappears.

Any ideas?

Try saving the PDF to disk and opening it - see if that works. If it does,
perhaps you need to reinstall or update your Adobe Acrobat Reader or
whatever PDF reader you use, to make sure it works right with your browser
when you select a PDF file for inline viewing.

Doesn't give you the chance to save it. When you click the document on the
webpage, you see it downloading in the bottom laft hand corner. The document
flashes up really quickly and disappears. I'm then left with a blank white
window with done displaying in the bottom left hand corner.

Right click on the link and see if you can save it.

What happen you update your Adobe version to the latest or even better if
you uninstall the Old one ( got bloated and corrupted sometimes) and install
the New release 8 I think for Adobe from here:

I may try that. I have the full version of Acrobat along with Adobe 7. I'm
starting to think it's an IE setting.

Hi Bob,
You need to check the File association from the Windows Explorer by doing
this:
Open windows Explorer click Tools >> Folder Options >> File Type and scroll
to whichever file type and Highlight it then click on Advanced Button.
The check the Box for [ ] 'confirm open after download'.
For the IE settings:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced.
Click on Security Tab, click Custom Level then scroll down to this option:
[&] Downloads
[ &] Downloads-Automatic Promptings for File downloads
(*) Enable Check this or prompt
( ) Disable
( ) Prompt
Then check under Advanced Tab and scroll down under Browsing Option,
that this check box is checked:
[ ] Prompt when download is complete. check this box
HTH.
Let us know.
Regards,
