My active XP (Pro) partition is too small, it needs enlarging. I found
someone else with a similar problem, but don't want to have to use ASR or
buy partition magic. I could use the file and settings transfer wizard to
copy stuff over and reinstall on a new primary active partition (new HDD),
does it backup group policy, the registry, local security and all the other
deeper administrative stuff?

No, the hkey-local-machine hive in the registry has that stuff, and you are
saving settings in the hkey-current-user hive with the FAST wizard. MSBACKUP
is what you want. (rightclick a drive, Properties, tools tab.)

Won't there be conflicts with a new drive letter, I could change the letter
in DOS, last time I did that it wiped my partition (problems with fdisk and
not being able to change letter of active partition in windows, then would
all the programs look at the right drive letter in the registry?)

Thanks
