I have a movie production file that, after some memory failure, seemed to zap
about 9/10ths of the production out. Can I go back to a previous version of
the file? It was not formally backed up.

It is doubtful, but you should ask in a forum for your unnamed program. It's
not really an OS question. It may automatically make backups.

It depends on whether the program in which you created the file has some
sort of automatic backup. You can also look in the Windows temporary
files, but I doubt you'll find anything there.

If the data is crucial, stop using the machine immediately and contact a
professional data recovery company. I like DriveSavers, but there are
others. These companies' services are not inexpensive, but only you can
determine the value of your data Here are some links:

Alan - Thanks, I have gone to the program's community newsgroup and asked and found that I'm pretty much out of luck. Although saving regularly, the glitch still blew out my file - I will have to save to another file regularly as well. Beyond that, I thought there might be some way to restore a specific file to a previous state, as one would the system in XP.
