WinXP Pro, SP1, on a P4 1.5 ghz computer.

How can I force file type *.gif to be opened by MS Photo Editor?

Folder options/file types is set for Photo Editor, but the Windows Picture
and Fax Viewer always opens a clicked-on GIF file.

I just posted a similar help request. The problem is with
file associations. You can change the association on ONE
FILE at a time and it only works one time! I can only
assume that Microsoft wants to make it difficult to use
competing products.

Well, in my case, both apps are M$. I haven't had any problem directing
*.jpg to any app I want (PhotoEditor, Adobe Photoshop, Photoworks, etc.)

Just these *.gif files.

From my computer, I usually go to <tools> <folder options><(file types> and
scroll to the extension I want, then edit. This usually works globally, not
file by file. But for some reason, not for *.gif.

Perhaps the MS Photo Editor can't open .gif files. Perhaps MS didn't
want to pay the licensing fee. Irfanview is a free and great little
graphics program, maybe you should try that (www.irfanview.com).
