File Size

I have a file I have been creating recently in Excel and
the size of the file is just HUGE. It has about 10 tabs
currently and it is about 3.6MB in size.

I have also seen another excel file created by someone
else that has 28 tabs (both files are training logs so
the amount of data in his worksheets seems to be similar)
but his file is only about 1.2MB in size.

Are there any tips or tricks to reducing the size of a
file?

Thanks

Jeff

Hi Jeff!

Here's a few tips. Others will no doubt add more.

Delete unused rows and columns after the end of your data. Excel
doesn't necessarily view the last used cell the same as you do.

Convert "one-off" calculations and formulas to their current values
using copy > paste special > values.

Format in blocks rather than as individual cells and remove
unnecessary formatting

Remove blocks of formulas and replace by array formulas where
possible.

Use later versions of Excel. They seem to be more efficient in terms
of file size.

One thing you can check: Press Ctrl + End, if the cell that is selected is
not at the end of
your data (assume the last entry is in Q450 but when you press ctrl + end it
goes to Z1000)
Then select everything below row 450 and everything to the right of column Q
and do edit>delete
then save the workbook, that should help a bit. Here is a good source
