I have a simple spreadsheet that started out 1.5 MB....then I starte
adding working sheets and VLOOKUP's.,....next thing I know it come
back saying 7 MB. I went back and copied, paste special, values of th
results of the VLOOKUP, but still the file size did not go down. I
should since I am virtually going back to the way it was in its 1.5 M
form. How can I reduce file size?

Thanks for any advice......

One possible culprit is that you have something (even just a space
character) in a cell on one (or more) of your worksheets way beyond the end
of the area you are using. Press Ctrl+End to take you to the last used cell
on any worksheet. If this is not where you expect it, select all rows that
you are not using and delete them (from the Edit or right-click menu - NOT
the keyboard Delete key). Do the same for unused columns. Save the file.
(For some early versions you also have to close and restart Excel.) Check
that he last used cell has been reset appropriately. You file size will now
be much reduced.

I'm having the same problem. I've tried deleting all
columns and rows outside of my data rectangle, and still
have an extremely large file. I then reformatted all
cells to the default format and paste-valued all formulas,
with no luck. Finally, I deleted all columns and rows in
each worksheet leaving me with no data. When I now press
ctrl-end, I wind up in cell A1, which tells me my
worksheets are empty, but the file still is 5.7M. Any
ideas on where else to look would be appreciated.

Andy,

Odd to say that I am kind of thankful it is not just me. This has
really stumped me. Hopefully one of the Excel gurus can step in and
help.

Any chance you have hidden sheets?
Or worksheets with other objects on them (pictures???)
