Is there a simple, reliable file shredder out there that will not crash
the system?

TIA

BcWipe is shareware. It was originally released as freeware but it
became shareware after it became popular. The version at the website
above is the shareware version. The old freeware version can be
downloaded from http://www.321download.com/LastFreeware/ .

If you have WinXP, then I don't recommend Bcwipe or Eraser because both
of these crash on my WinXP system. I use Simple File Shredder which is
freeware & can be downloaded from http://www.scar5.com/ , I used this
one for the past several days & have not had any crashes.

This whole subject was discussed a few months ago, with links to some
very thorough analyses. If you want to keep casual hackers out of old
files, writing zeros all over unused space is sufficient. If you want
to keep the government (or anyone likely to disassemble your drive)
out of them, no program will do the job.

My apologies for giving everyone the url for the shareware version.
I didn't know that BCWipe had become shareware; I should have checked
before answering the query. regards, He2
