I've networked my laptop to my desktop and can access the desktop through the
laptop but can't access the laptop through the desktop. I've pinged the
desktop through the laptop but can't do the same through the desktop. Any
ideas

Offhand I'd bet a personal firewall misconfigured or misbehaving.
How are the two connected?
Provide ipconfig information for each computer, and we'll try and diagnose the
problem.
Start - Run - "cmd" - Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window. Open Notepad, make sure that Format - Word Wrap is NOT checked!, open
file c:\ipconfig.txt, copy and paste entire contents into your next post.
Identify operating system (by name, version, and SP level) with each ipconfig
listing.
