Hello,

I am fairly new to this networking stuff, so bare with me, pls.
:)

Ok, I have ASUS router, 3 computers (one connected directly to router,
one via WAN and laptop also on WAN).
Internet connection is VDSL.

I would very much like to be able to share files and printer between
all 3 comps. And of course sleep soundly at nights not worrying about
some hackers breaking in to my computers...

I run win XP and win 2K pro (on laptop).

What do I need to do, please?

:)

Run XP's Network Setup Wizard on each computer. If the Wizard detects
the router's shared Internet connection, tell it to use that
connection. Otherwise, tell it that the computers connect to the
Internet through a residential gateway (router).

The Wizard will enable file and printer sharing, create a Shared
Documents folder, and share any attached printers. You can then
right-click and share other disks and folders if you wish.

Dear Steve,

thank you for your instructions.

On XP computer it was a piece of cake, on 2K pro a bit trickier.
But I worked it out, tnx to you.

It is working now.

Thank you again

kind regards

You're welcome, Rick.

I missed the fact that the laptop runs 2K, which can't use XP's
Network Setup Wizard. Congratulations on getting everything to work
in spite of my mistaken advice for that computer.

It is ok.
Network connection was already there, obviously, I just needed to set
the sharing options...

:)

Thank you!
