How do I setup XP pro after sp2 to allow my other Win 98 PC to share a
folder/files? This was working fine before sp2 but now XP always prompts the
Win 98 PC for a password when I try to access the share. XP can connect to
Win 98 fine just not the other way around. The XP's share isn't set to
require a password. I'm only need file and printer sharing. Is it possible
to share the XP's dialup internet connection since the Win 98 PC has no
connection otherwise? The network consists of two nics and a cross-over
cable.

thanks

Make sure your home network is allowed in the Windows Firewall. Look up
Internet Connection Sharing in XP's Help & Support for your second
question.

"Don't Panic!"

I ran the Network Setup Wizard in XP pro sp2 again. I indicated that neither
computer was connected to the Internet and made sure file and printer
sharing was set. I then used the setup disk it created on the Win98se PC.
Still no luck. The Win98 PC is always challenged for a password and denied
access. Who knows what password would be accepted? Is this a problem caused
by the Win98 PC which doesn't require a logon password? XP reports there is
only a limited connection between the PC's. When I try to "repair" it XP
seems to be trying to renew the IP address. I think it is looking for one
from Internet which of course always fails without an Internet connection.
Any ideas on how to setup a standalone home network after XP sp2? Like I
said it worked fine with sp1 but not under sp2.

thanks

I found solutions to both questions. See answers at the end.

1. XP's Guest account must be enabled for file and printer sharing to work.
An easy test to run from a DOS window on XP is: net use \\[xp pc
name]\[share name] /user:guest ""

2. ICS does not seem to work with a Juno e-mail/web connection. In my case
the dialup adapter that needs to be set to allow ICS does not exist until
Juno is connected. Juno also deletes this adapter when you log off so none
of the settings remain.
