File sharing issue

I have a domain setup at my office. I have setup a computer off of the
domain but still connected to the LAN. It is used for my employees to be
able to access the Internet. Most of them have no need to have any access to
the stuff that is on the domain; plus I don't want to pay for extra user
licenses that will rarely be used.

Anyway, I have setup a share on this computer that is only for me to access.
The computer has its own user names, though mine is the same on this PC as
it is on the domain. The passwords are also the same.

When I try to open the share from the network is denies me access. I assume
this is by design, but is there a way around it?

This extra computer, is it running XP Home or Pro? If Pro, is it running Simple
or Advanced File Sharing? This makes a significant difference.

There are numerous reasons for "access denied" besides simple authentication /
authorisation. One of the most common causes would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

If you like, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer,
so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and
follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):

All of a sudden it started working. Maybe it just needed to catch everything
up. Oh well.

That's good to know. Thanks for updating the thread. Let us know if it starts
acting up again.
