I have networked two PCs - one running Win XP Home and
the other Win 2000 professional - via a wireless router
and broadband connection.

The internet connection works fine but I am unable to
share files between the two PCs, although I can see the
share enabled folders from each PC to the other and have
successfully shared the printer across them.

The network connection is enabled for TCP/IP, client for
MS networks, file & printer sharing and QoS packet
scheduler.

I have set each of the files to share - what could the
problem be?

Disable any and all firewalls and test again....
Try to ping both machines...if that works then you are
ready for the next step

Thanks - both firewalls have been removed and I have
successfully pinged both machines.

What is that next step please?

Can you access the shared files now ?
Does it give you an error like "not sufficient acces
rights" when you try to open a shared file?
Since you're using XP Home, this means simple file
sharing with a "guest" account.... Does the guest account
exist on the 2000 machine ? Same password ?
Just brainstorming here...

I still can't access the shared folders the message tells
me that there are not sufficient resources to action my
request and that I may not have persmissions.

I hava a "guest" account on both machines both with a
null password

Does the Guest account have sufficient access rights to
the shared directories ? Especially necessary if your
disks are in NTFS format...shouldn't matter if you have
FAT32 on the machines...

Now here is where I need the help - the file system is
NTFS.

The guest account on the XP machine is just a standard
guest and I do not know how to set access rights on this
or the W2k guest - can you point me in the right
direction please?

Let's see if I can do this from memory....(I have FAT 32)
In windows explorer, right click on the folder you want
to share. Select properties. Here you should have a
TAB "security". In this menu you should be able to add
user accounts and give them full/read-write/delete access
to this specific folder...
There's a good explanation on
http://www.microsoft.com/WINDOWS2000/en/server/iis/htm/cor
e/iidfpsc.htm
good luck !

Hmm, can you please give us the EXACT and COMPLETE text of this error
message.

I have a suspicion I know what the problem is, but I'd need
the full and exact text of the error message to be sure.
