After some editing of the registry, I've deleted something I shouldn't have.
Internet Explorer doesn't open some links (Java), File Search doesn't show on
left side of window and the User Account window doen't display.
Any suggestions as to what I've deleted and how to fix?

Use the System Restore tool and stay away from the registry if you do
not know *exactly* what you're doing.

System Restore doesn't function either!

Why - any error messages or did you disable that feature entirely?
In the latter case, you're running out of luck.

To check if the problem is caused by missing scripting registration /
missing runtime, run these commands:

Click Start, Run and type:

regsvr32 jscript
regsvr32 vbscript
regsvr32 /i mshtml (this returns an error if you have IE7 installed)

User Accounts applet is completely blank:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/useracc.htm

System Restore opens to a blank window?:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/srblank.htm

Several dialog boxes are blank:

Cheers that worked fine. Just needed the jscript re-registering. You got the
fault right on the head!

Well done.
Now I can get back to the original task!

You're welcome David. In future, use ERUNT (freeware) to create registry
backups on a daily basis.
