Hi everyone...

i was wondering if one of you ms office 2000 afficianados
could help me with something. Here's my thing:

I have a document i have been writing. I have disabled
allowing temp files in the options and have been saving
the document to floppy. After ejecting the disc (and
losing it), is there anyway i can now retrieve the
document i've been working on. Keep in mind that i had
disabled that temp file option. But i mean are there any
hidden temp files somewhere that would have my whole
document somehow, miraculously, on it?

Thanks for your help...

T.

oh, and if it's relevant...MS office 2000, Windows XP Pro.

You cannot disable the temporary files that Word creates.
Saving to floppy disc is the premier cause of document corruption.
You have *lost* the disc? The disc is where your file is - nowhere else.

What i mean by disabling the temp files is that i have
opted not to allow "background saves". I'm
wondering/hoping/praying that there are hidden temp files
that Word creates regardless of whether one disables this
option.

thanks, and any more opinions would be heartily welcomed.

"Background saves" have nothing to do with temp files (see
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/general/AutomaticSave.htm) and most of the temp
files created would have been in the same folder with the document, anyway
(on the floppy). The rest would be in the Windows Temp folder and would have
been deleted when you closed the file.

Hi there.

I was wondering if you could just clarify this for me, if
you don't mind. I won't be resigned to my fate of losing
the document until i'm absolutely sure about it. If i've
been saving my document onto floppy, and have since
closed the document, is there absolutely no way i can
retrieve that file? Do no copies exist of it
anywhere...like a wrl~ file or something odd like that?
I only ask because i don't want to leave anything to
chance. I mean, i don't want to give up on this unless
i'm absolutely sure. The document was rather lengthy,
and as i've said, i've since lost the disc that i had it
stored on.

Thanks so much for your time, and i'm curious, if you
don't mind me asking, do you work for microsoft? I'm
unfamiliar with how this message board works. Anyway,
thanks again for your time.

yours truly,

T.

If you never saved it to the HD and have lost the floppy, then it is *gone*.
Start rewriting.
