I'm writing on behalf of a friend. While setting up his dsl connection, he
was prompted to re-install windows, which he did. He re-installed Windows XP
home edition, but afterwards lost all of his Word documents and several other
files as well.
We've used search (every possible file name combination), looked
through files manually and tried file recovery using pcinspector 3.0

Any other suggestions on how we might be able to recover the files or
are they lost forever?

Thanks

Hi,

Sounds like you've already covered the basics: Check under user profiles
that may have been part of the old system and try a freeware file recovery
tool. At this point he would need more specialized (and expensive)
techniques to attempt recovery. This is something best left to a
professional.

Hi there,
I have the same problem and still have not lost folders and files. Did your
friend recover his? I f he did could you let me know how? I would really
appreciate it.

I would imagine that the comment really meant that the user was prompted to
insert the WinXP disk during setup for a file copy. But, if the service
provider were aol, you never know what they are capable of.......<g>
