file permission error messages

Suddenly, when I try to save a Word doc in either my jump drive or floppy disk drive, I get a message that says Word 2002 cannot save the message due to a error in file permission. I can only save to My docs. I need to back up my work. What can I do? Is this a problem in the program or in my computer itself?
 
Is a jump drive the same as a flash or key drive?

This is not really an answer, but a possible workaround. It is bad practice
to save directly to removable media anyhow. Always save to hard drive and
*copy* to floppy to avoid corruption.
