Hi guys, I am new to XP and computers in General and need a little
advice........... I want to secure a file on my desktop with a password that
ONLY controls access to THAT file. Can you guys help me as I have searched
help and it is either not there, or I need to get new reading glasses.

Looking forward to your responses.

Hi,

You have two choices:

1) Zip the file and password it, this is the only passwording supported in
WinXP.

2) Use permissions, as this is how XP prevents users from accessing files.

Like Win2K, WinXP's file security paradigm doesn't rely on, or
allow, the cumbersome method of password protection for individual
applications, files, or folders. Instead, it uses the superior method
of explicitly assigning file/folder permissions to individual users
and/or groups.
