There is this folder with files in it that I think are no
use for me, and it wont let me access the folder and
files, I tried to go in it on the Administrator account,
it still says the same thing, is there a way to gain
access to these files?
Thanks

It depends on what the folder is. If its a system folder, such as System
Volume Information, you're better off staying out of it.

With that said, you use this information at your own risk.

XP PRO: In Windows Explorer, go to Tools, Folder Options, View and uncheck
Use Simple File Sharing. Now, when you right click on a drive, folder or
file (on an NTFS partition) and select Properties, you'll see a Security
tab. Here you can assign or deny permissions based on user name or user
group membership.

XP Home: By default, you can only make files and folders under My Documents
"private". This is done by right clicking a folder or file and selecting
Properties, Sharing. To change the permissions on other folders, you need
to boot the computer to Safe Mode and log in on the built in Administrator
account. In this mode, you'll see the Security tab in Properties, and you
can assign permissions based on user name or group membership.

How Do I Get the Security Tab in Properties - XP Home (makes the Security
tab appear outside of Safe Mode)

Doug, Appreciate your help but as I pointed out in the
original post, the thing you suggest my doing is what I
been doing already in Registry permissions. I'm not
playing stump the pro, but let me see if I have the
possible answer.(I of course have slightly more complete
info). At some time prior, I told XP to encrypt all files
in this folder.Didn't seem to do much so I forgot about
it.Later when I formatted my C drive and re-installed XP,
the original encryption key to this folder is then
gone.XP does not know how to decrypt it.What do you think?
(I just looked up at the subject line and I hope you read
my post and not another. That was not my subject line).

If you didn't back up your encryption keys, the the information in that
folder is gone for all practical purposes.
