File Locking

AGGH!!!!

At random intervals during the day all my files on my computer become
"file locked" and can not be over written or save under there own name
(they need to be renamed).

I ran Who Lock Me? and get the following:

Locker Name PID Opened File Handle Domain User Locker
Full Path

System 0x0004 (4) C:\My Documentst\Book1.xls 0x1154 NT
AUTHORITY SYSTEM

System 0x0004 (4) C:\My Documentst\Book1.xls 0x115C NT
AUTHORITY SYSTEM

System 0x0004 (4) C:\My Documentst\Book1.xls 0x1164 NT
AUTHORITY SYSTEM

It can occur on any type of file as well as program files etc

When I reboot it works fine for a while and then occurs. No one else
is using these files.!!!! IS it a virus?, Spyware? Worm Or do i have
an XP setting screwed up.

There is no way for us to tell if your computer is infected with viruses
and/or malware. Only you can do that. If you don't have a current
version (not earlier than 2005) antivirus installed, start by scanning
in Safe Mode with either Sysclean or David Lipman's Multi-AV:

After the initial scan with one of those tools, get a full-featured av,
install it, update it, and do a thorough scan in Safe Mode.

After scanning for viruses, continue scanning in Safe Mode for non-viral
malware per:

No virus was found...any other ideas? Can you tell anything fromwhat I

I have no idea what is happening on your computer. The Book1.xls is an
Excel file. If the error message always has to do with Excel, perhaps
you should post in the Excel newsgroup. Maybe this is a known issue and
one of the Excel experts will recognize the symptoms.

type of file jpg, bmp, even txt files

I'm very sorry, but I have no idea what is happening on your computer.
If I could see the machine I might be able to diagnose it, but I'm
afraid nothing comes to mind reading about your symptoms. Maybe it's
time for you to consult a local professional (not someone from
BigStoreUSA). Very often someone who can actually see the computer will
be able to diagnose a problem quickly where someone just reading about
the symptoms in a newsgroup won't.
