Hi Steve,
Compared to when and what did you change from one month
before it was reasonable and what it is now.. Did anything
change and then you immediately had the problem.
Journaling in Outlook:
If you have a network then you probably use Outlook for your email.
If you use Outlook (or even have it installed) you may have the
Journaling option (logging open/close) turned on that will hurt you
in about 3 weeks of starting it. It is a sequential file (flat file) and
just keeps getting bigger. It sneaks up on you because at first
if can't be noticed at all, then it takes longer and longer, but still
unnoticed, suddenly to discover it is taking longer and longer, and
longer. .
Save As two different versions:
If you are storing your files as compatible with two different
Office versions that makes the files twice as big, seldom recommended.
Last cell location:
How about file sizes, they may be big due to last cell location
not being updated. use Ctrl+End on several sheets does it
look correct -- the intersection of the last used row and the
last used column.
AntiVirus program
Excel creates a copy of the file with a garbled name and without
a file extension, and renames copy when finished. Networks
and particularly AV programs do not like this and think of it
as a security breach. You may have to get the AV program
turned off to see if that is the problem, then turn it back on. If the
AV program is the problem contact the AV help or check their
website.
