File Explorer Folders View Freezes

Hi,
Hope someone can help. If I click on folder view in file explorer, I get an
hour glass and can't use the folder view. Also, all my programs that use
folder view aren't able to do so, and just freeze. Anyone have any ideas?
I've got Windows XP Pro, service pack 2. This thing just started happening
out of the blue.
