Mr Major Thorburn

I have been advised that using X to exit outlook may cause
corrupted OST or PST files and that I should always use
the File, Exit and Logoff option.

I have always thought that the X to exit always closes the
application properly.

Using task manager to kill the app would be the wrong way
to exit.

Any reassurance for me about outlook X to exit?

Regards, Major.

We saw a few problems here with Outlook 2000, but 2002 and 2003 don't even
have that menu item and work just fine with the X.

The logoff was from the MAPI spooler. That's now internal since Outlook 2002
so no longer needed. Leaving the spooler logged in could cause mailbox
corruption if the mailbox was hit by someone else or even yourself again
before the spooler timed out and shut down on its own.
