file conversions

I have been unable to do any file conversions on my Word Documents. I can't
read anything. They come to me in PDF and I have a choice of Windows
(Default), MsDos, Other Encoding. I've tried each and every one and still
get unreadable forms. Please tell me what I should do. Thank you.

Open them with Adobe Reader.

If you are getting files in .pdf format, they are not MS Word documents.
They are *.pdf files. Open *.pdf files with Foxit Reader or Adobe
Acrobat Reader.
