As mentioned, ccApp is Symantec (norton). MSVCRT71 is Mirosoft Visual
C++ Run Time version 7.1. It could belong to anything (it's shipped
with everything), including Norton. If you unintalled Norton, by simply
deleting all the files, or the uninstaller crashed before it was done,
that could do it. So could a hardware failure such as bad sectors on
the hard drive.

Reinstalling Norton, and then uninstalling it properly may cure the
issue. Check out the hardware angle, first, though.

Thanks for your reply but how about if the MSVCRT71 is followed by a
dot and dll?

The hard drive was defragmented a month ago and I did not see any bad
sectors.

I tried uninstalling Norton by loading the CD but received a fatal
error comment. therefore I commented to the symantec website and
downloaded the autofix

Hello group
I uninstalled the Symantec using the autofix and reinstalled it and
it seems the bug just disappeared and my pc is running normal again.
Thanks for enlightening me about this particular file but would
beinterested what particularly is this file MSVCRT71.dll?
TIA

Contains a bunch of c++ functions. It's redistributed in thousands of
programs, the last 2 numbers are just the version info. There is a
version distributed with Windows too.
