We have a series of DOT files that we use to ensure consistency of our
product development process documents. They work well except if someone does
one of two things, the files bloat exponentially. The file will initiatlly
bloat from 2 meg to 120 meg and continue increasing in size.
The two things that seem to trigger the bloat are:
1. Creating a table and then merging some cells (the table is no longer
normalized)
or
2. Creating a section and formatting it into 2 columns (to be honest - I
haven't been able to replicate this one)
In addition to the file bloating in size, the footers suddenly have
additional paragraphs added so that it takes up 1/3 of the page.
I have looked at the codes using CrossEyes and haven't been able to discern
anything weird that way. We have sample files, but since they contain future
product information, I can't send them. I can probably fabricate something,
but I am hoping someone has already encountered this behaviour.
In the short term, we're advising people not to merge cells in a table or
use 2 column section formats...but we really need a better solution.
