I have some .tif files that I would like to open with the
installed WinXP software. I cannot get the check box
enabled that allows me to select the same program each
time a certain file is opened.

"Always use the selected program to open this kind of file
check box." How can this check box be enabled if it is
currently disabled? I need to bypass the process of
choosing the program each time I open .tif images.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

How are you trying? While in Explorer, right click on a file of the type in
question, then choose "Open With", "Choose Program", then choose and check
the box for "Always use this program....."

Are you logged on as local administrator? A last ditch effort would be to...
from a command prompt;

assoc .xxx
Where xxx is a file type that opens with the desired application
( should return with something to the effect of)
xxx=xxxfile

Then assoc .tif=xxxfile

If this isn't clear, then post the name of the application you wish to use.
