File association Problem

used a program called avast virus scan to find some peskies the other day, well noone said that it would remove non virus programs from my computer. aparently it removed something that associates my files to programs
Now every time I try to open a program I get

"This file does not have a program associates with it for performing this action. Create an association int he Folder Options control pannel

I might be making more out of this than it is, but I am opening a program, then was is saying that I don't have program attached to it, isn't it already a program

What can I do to fix this problem, that doesn't require me to associate every single file back to a program, that I am not ever sure which they belong to in the first place.
 
Hi

Has that 'peskie removing' program got an 'undo' option? If so, try that. If not, try a System Restore back to a point before the problem started.
