File Association for .dat files

somehow my .dat files have become associated with NeroMix. On my other
computer they are not associated with any program. I have tryed to reset the
association to "nothing", but only see options to asocaite with another
program. How can I remove any association with .dat files? Thank you, Bil

Open Regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dat

Backup the key to a REG file

In the right-pane, right-click (default) and choose Delete.

It should now read (Value not set), which is the XP default setting.
