After creating a home network I can see the file folders however the actual
files cannot be seen. I get an error message of "\\office\c-del is not
accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource.
Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access
permissions. Access is denied."

Also note that I even removed all Norton "stuff" and still the same. What
is the problem????

Frank,

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. Did you use all
Symantec procedures for removing Norton? There are several other possibilities
too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this article with an open
mind.

http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/10/irregularities-in-workgroup-visibility.html

For more direct help, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):

Please let us know if any of these suggestions are of any help. What you learn
may help others in the future, and that's the purpose of these forums.

How do I then email you the results of both the ipconfig and browstat text
files for each computer?

Frank,

You can post those files here, and it is quite safe to do so.

OK, Frank,

Let's use "ipconfig /all" as an example.
# Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt", in a command window.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/command-window.html>
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/command-window.html
# Type "notepad c:\ipconfig.txt".
# When Notepad opens, select all (Ctrl-A) and copy (Ctrl-C).
# After you reply to me with "Here it is!", paste (Ctrl-V).
So simple, once you figure it out.

OK, Frank,

Let's start with an inventory of the computers. XP Home, or Pro? If Pro,
Simple File Sharing enabled or disabled?
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html#Simple>
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html#Simple

Anyway, the good news is that both computers are connecting, in general. Family
sees itself, and HP ("There are 2 servers in domain MSHOME..." / "There are 1
domains in domain MSHOME..."). Yet HP only sees itself "There are 1
servers...").

Do you have shares on both computers? Is NetBIOS Over TCP explicitly Enabled on
both computers?
